saint Helena Regiment
« on: Monday 18 August 08 22:22 BST (UK) »
The Saint Helena regiment was formed at the begining of the 1800s and was disbanded mid 1800s, my question is , was it formed by royal or goverment request and how quick was it formed?

The St Helena Regiment was formed by the East India Company under Royal Warrant. At it's height it had about 700 men and was used to guard Napoleon. They were taken over by the government in 1834, and were still in existence in 1850. Most of it's men would have been recruited in the UK.
