Sydney Alfred Moores, born Clapham 1895

Hi,

I'm trying to trace where Sydney Alfred Moores, born in Clapham 1895 ended up and when.  He married Hilda Violet Turner in wandsworth in 1923. He (alone) then went to Australia (Sydney) in 1926 a few years after his son (Alan Sydney Moores) was born, we know he came back, then went a wandering again. We know he used to pop-up now and then, but nobody seems to know what happened to him. We've been told he was a "full time captain in the home guard during 1939-1945", but no idea where. His parents were Sydney Charles Moores 1869 of Bermondsey and Edith Jane Beslee 1859 of Woodchurch in Kent. We are not sure if he died in the UK.

If anyone has any info or guidance we will be very gratefull.

I know this might sound obvious but as his name is not common have you tried a quarterly search thru the death indices on Ancestry. You might get lucky and find his death.

Unfortunatly he hasn't turned up there, we do keep checking and hoping though.

I think you mis-understood the suggestion. You seem to be relying on the freebmd index on Ancestry.
You can also search the GRO index page-by-page for each qtr which is what is being suggested.

 - there's one hit in 1945 here for Sydney Alfred Moores, this could relate to his home guard service?
