find an actual wedding date when you only know the quarter
« on: Thursday 14 August 08 19:17 BST (UK) »
Good Evening
I am new to all this and would appreciate some guidance please. I have found more by luck than judgment the fourth quarter of 1940 the marriage of Betty Franks to Roche in Croydon and wanted to get a copy of the marriage certificate but the General Register Offices on line form wanted the date.

if you could give me a pointer or two I would be very grateful.

You need to make sure that you check the "Yes" box on the "Certificate Choice" screen, which is one of the first ones you encounter:

For all events
Is the General Register Office Index known?  Yes        No

If you've found the wedding in 4Q 1940, then presumably you will know the GRO index reference ?

A very warm welcome to Rootschat Musket, but surely if you have given the Quarter for the Marriage and the Registration District and the Volume and Page reference this is all they should need to find the Cert?
