Hi Mary,
Apologies for the delay in responding to your message - I've been experiencing computer problems recently and finally got it sorted.
I am definitely interested in pursuing this and would be keen to mail them. I will send a private message to you with my e-mail address.

Thanks again for all your help!

I thought I'd post a photo here of my Grandfather next to the mystery sailor so everyone can see why I'm so convinced (or tell me that I'm just crazy!) :)

Hi Carla

I know your post was quite some time ago, back in 2008, however I am hoping that you will receive my reply.

Your great grandmother, Sheilah Evlyn Ismay Oakley, and my great grandmother, Joyce Oakley, were sisters. I read your post whilst I was searching the internet to find out what became of Cyril. I had not heard the story about the Norwegian sailor before, however our family knew it was not certain who his father was. We had been told he had gone to live with his grandparents, Clara & Percy Oakley after his mother's death, as did her daughter (Cyril's half sister) Cecily. Apparently Cecily and Cyril were close in childhood and I wonder if they kept in touch throughout their lives.

I would love to make contact with you and tell you what information I have about Sheilah and her family. I am also in contact with my great aunt who is a niece of Sheilah's and will be checking what information she might have.

I would love to know if you have tracked down anything further since 2008. Please let me know if you would like to get in touch.

Regards

Kathy

Hi Kathy. I'm only just seeing your reply a year later as I've sparked interest in family history again and going back over unsolved mysteries. I've sent you a PM with my email address and would love to hear from you :)
