I have recently now done some more research on this family as I have access to the censuses from 1851.  Yes, thank-you, the 1851 reference is correct and I have now found them in the 1861 Census as below:-

Elizabeth Lovell    Head  Widow  30 Mangler   Born Brentford
Joseph Lovell        Son                 14                Born Kensington
Elizabeth               Dau                 13 Ironer            "
William                   Son                 10                       "
Caroline                 DAu                  9                         "

On Caroline's birth certificate, Elizabeth her monther gives her maiden name as Rogers. 

On the 1851 Census, also at The Potteries, is an Elizabeth Rogers with son Joseph.  It would seem likely that this is the mother of Elizabeth Lovell but I would like to confirm this, either from the 1841 Census or from Parish Records.

Does anyone know where the Records for Brentford would be held and the name of the likely church.  I ran out of time on my last visit to the London Metropolitan Archives so could not confirm whether they were there or not.  May not be able to get back there for some time so any help would be appreciated.

You might want to consider getting the marriage certificate for Joseph and Elizabeth as that would give you their fathers' names.  For Brentford there seems to be New Brentford and Old Brentford (became a parish in 1828, previously in Ealing) - LMA hold records for both.  I suppose Elizabeth's baptism could also be in Ealing (Christ Church) as well.

Thank you for that info.  Unfortunately, I cannot find a civil registration for Joseph & Elizabeth's marriage  There was another Joseph Lovell of about the same age in the area at the time which has been confusing!

I will bear in mind the Ealing link when next I get the chance to go to London.

Remind me.............I can see a Joseph Lovell in Mangotsfield, Glos and I was doing a lookup the other day for Mangotsfield......can't remember anything about it without looking.....it wasn't you was it?
or is it just a small world?

No I don't have any connection with Glos.  Must have been someone else.  These Joseph Lovells must get everywhere.

Hi,

there was a pottery lane , crescent street in notting dale , is where i live , it was known years ago as the potteries & piggeries and there are still lovells in the area to this day
