Shelton/Bishop
« on: Tuesday 12 August 08 14:36 BST (UK) »
I have hit a brick wall on finding my grandmother's parents and family.
Mona Marjorie Shelton was born to James Shelton and Caroline/Christine Bishop in Adelaide, Cape Provience in 1904. at this time her family lived in Cradock St, Bedford.  They belonged to the Church of England. That is all I have on her family.  ???
My grandmother died in Durban around May 1980.

No information on NAAIRS.  I do not have her ID number nor date of death (her son, my uncle, will not give me this information even though he arranged her funeral and was her executor)  :-X

Can any one add anything or suggest another avenue to explore?

Thanks
Michelle

Hello Michelle,

I have been researching the Shelton family for years and have experienced similar difficulties. My gran was born a Shelton. Her father was James Ernest Shelton (1903 - 1979). His father was James Shelton born in 1879 or 1883 in Fort Beaufort/Beaufort West. He died in 1908 in Pretoria.

The problem comes in identifying his parents who are recorded as James Shelton and Agnes (?). I have never found an Agnes that was correct. My speculation is that his parents were James Shelton and Catherine Bishop of Bedford in Beaufort West. I cannot however find a birth certificate.

Do you know any family stories of your grandmother's family? Perhaps an uncle James or any other siblings.

Regards,
Claire

I take it this was her husband?
Mona Marjorie Shelton married Eric Gerald Crombie (a.k.a Hoaten)
sometime before 1931. He worked for SA Harbours and Railways and died
while in their employ in Walvis Bay. Can any one help with any
information?

Thanks

Michelle

James SHELTON and Catherine BISHOP appear to have divorced in 1925 - A look at the file (not online) may give you some clues as to their ancestry:  DEPOT     KAB
