ROPER / ANGEL Buckfastleigh
« on: Monday 11 August 08 09:37 BST (UK) »
I am researching William Roper bpt 17/03/1805 Buckfastleigh, Devon, UK who was married to Sarah Angel (Angell) Bpt 04/09/1803 at Buckfastleigh.

They had the following children -
John bpt 1831,
Thomas bpt 1833 died 1838,
Catharine bpt 1835 died 1839,
Thyrza Bpt 1837,
William Born abt 1841,
Thomas born abt 1844
Harriet born abt 1849 all at Buckfastleigh.

The family lived in Jordan St, Buckfastleigh in the 1841 census and Silver Street in the 1851 census.

William Roper worked as a Tanner.

After this I am unable to find any trace of William, wife Sarah, and Children Thyrza (Thirza), William Thomas and Harriet in any subsequent census and suspect they left the area and in all probablity the UK.

John I have found and followed his tree ( My wife's 2 x Great Grandfather) I was wondering if anyone had any info on the missing Ropers

Thanks

Hi Relly

yes that's them - an extremely bad transcription on most of the names - Raper plus the bad transcriptions of the Christian names but that is definitely them.

Odd thing today though is that I went to the Devon County records at Exeter today and found Harriet's marriage on 12/05/1869 at Buckfastleigh to a James Robert Thomas a stone mason from Paignton  aged 25yrs. It again shows her father as a Tanner so they must have come back from Cornwall!.

Goongumpass in the parish of Gwennap is about half a mile from where my mum lives! How odd is that too? Have walked through Goongumpass many many times.

Thanks for your effort it has helped greatly
