Preston/Cummins, Cummings
« on: Sunday 10 August 08 00:12 BST (UK) »
We are looking for Margaret and Peter Cummins/ marriage certificate 1844.   Married at St. Wilfrid's RC Church, Preston. They lived on  Bedford Street, Preston.
Her father was William Kenny, Courier, Bedford Street, Preston
His father was Peter Cummins, Overlooker, Bow Street, Preston.
William was a Mechanic
Margaret was a cloth reeler.
They had two children:
William in 1846 my great grand father
 Peter      1849
We sent for another birth certificate for      Mary     1845
We don't think she came to the USA.  More children may exist.
We found William and Peter on the US census and were able to go forward to 1930, etc.  They settled in Philadelphia, Pa and never left the area.
We have hit a brick wall in Preston, Lancashire and can not, with our limited knowledge figure out how to find them. We called the Records Office and got nowhere.
Hope someone can steer me in the correct direction.
Thank you,
BillyC

Thank you for your kind reply
.  We have the marriage certificate for Peter and Margaret/1844.
Margaret and Peter never came to the US.  We never knew anything about them until I became a snoop.
We know nothing and can find nothing.  We heard from someone that a Mary may exist, so I sent for the birth certificate. for a Mary Cummins 1845. Not sure if she is part of the family.

We have all the information once William and Peterthe sons came to Philadelphia, Pa.  The names of the parents never surfaced on the USA census.
Thanks for all you do,
BillyC

Hi

What age is shown for Margaret Kenny on the 1844 marriage cert

Can you confirm that the marriage cert you have definitely shows him as Peter Cummins and not William?

What age was he

Sorry you are correct.  It is William.  Peter was his father and William was hers.  My mistake.

I love your cat picture, sorry off the subject.
I am new at this and seem to make many mistakes,

Hi

Per freebmd - this could be Margaret's death.  Unfortunately - ages were not shown on the index until the mid-later 1860's but will be on the death cert

Deaths December quarter 1848

Cummins  Margaret     Preston  21 374

Just a thought

The Margaret Cummins death was in the December qtr 1948 and the Peter Cummins birth was the March qtr 1949

If Margaret died during December 1848 following childbirth, they may only have registered Peters birth in the January of 1949 which would bring it into the March qtr
