Hi Rita, welcome to Rootschat.

Not sure if you are aware of the problem with WW1 service records.  About two thirds were destroyed by German bombs during WW2.

So good luck finding any.

Hi Bob

Yes I had been advised of this previously - but we live in hope - have tried all death records I can think of and suppose Douglas Frank may have gone overseas even.

Will keep trying off and on - but seems a losing battle so far - he was the eldest of a lot of siblings and I have his birth adn marriage details and addresses from birth certificates for his three children - know he worked as a grocery assistant/manager as well as his RAMC service - but not a lot really.

Thanks for the info

Rita

Hi Ady

I didn't know how to post a copy so another site member has kindly offered for me to send it to him privately and he will have a look at the three pieces of information I have - they haven't scanned too clearly - so hope he can manage

Thanks for continued help

The other three brothers are Ernest John davis, Edward Charles Davis - who fell in France - we do not have full records for these - but the CWGC memorial info - our grand daughter went on a school tip recently and placed a cross at the plaque which bears Edward Charles name on france - quite touching really for all of us.  She brought us a cross back too and some photographs - quite emotional really.

We have the other one to visit some time.

The Third brother was Edgar davis and we have some records for him - he survived.

Then we have Harold Daviswho you are all trying to help us with.

Quite a journey for us all really.

Thanks for everyone's help

Rita

I assume we can order it by post - not living close - but will phone or e-mail the museum tomorrow.

Many thanks again

Rita

Hi - just wanted to say thank you to all the people on this site who are helping me in my search for war records of Harold Davis - KOYLI WW1

Still have some way to go I imagine - but now have more than I had ebfore I joined the site last weekend - and have posted other topics in hope.

Seems to eb a good move I made - and if I can ever manage to use it properly am sur eit will be helpful interesting and even fun.  Family history can be a solitary occupation - so this site seems ggreat for sharing problems.

Thanks a million - everyone who is or has doen their best for me.

Have ordered two copies of the book Ady recommended and used the advice from all the others

Good Hunting - keep up the good work everyone

A grateful newcomer

Rita
