 Can any one please HELP !!   
my father-in-law was in the Home guard in  WW2
I am unable to trace the unit he was in.

He lived in Walthamstow ( essex )  London,  by the High Street.
He patrolled  the railway yards at Temple Mills ( Leyton )  in East London.

which might be of some use to you.   I believe that the comments are still valid but if you - or any other forum member engaged on a similar quest - can add anything following your current experience, I should be very grateful to hear it.

It sounds as though your father-in-law might well have belonged to one of the railway units, of which there were many.
