Yellup- North Walsham 1940's
« on: Saturday 09 August 08 16:13 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have found amongst my family photos a letter of reference for my mother from Mrs Yellup of ' Avondale ' Skeyton Road, North Walsham. I know my parents stayed with the Yellups during the war.
I have also a photo that I think is Mr and Mrs Yellup but needs verifying.
If this helps with anyones research then please let me know.

Regards
Pat

Hi Pat
I live in North Walsham and if you post the photo of the Yellups I will see if one of my workmates mother knows of them, she has lived here all her life and knows most of the oldies.

Thanks David

The date on the back is 31st July 1945 and there is a stamp which could be the studio where it was taken.
It's hard to make out but if I can see anymore with my magnifying glass I will let you know.

I know Mum and Dad wrote to the Yellops in the 1960's but I don't know much after that.

Pat.

HI Pat
The photo is indeed the Yellup's , my workmates mother and her sister used to work with their daughter Marjorie in the town laundry.
Mr Yellup was the towns lamplighter when North Walsham had gas lighting.

Hi David

That's good news that you have verified the photo as the Yellups. Thanks for taking the time to find out for me.
It's interesting that Mr Yellop was a lamplighter, that must have been a long time ago.
Mum and Dad always spoke about how Mr and Mrs Yellop helped them during the war. My Dad was stationed at North Walsham.

If there are any descendents of the Yellops who would like a copy of the photo and of the letter Mrs Yellop wrote for my Mum, please get in touch via rootschat and I will be happy to send them one.

Regards Pat

Dear David and Pat
I am current researching the Yellup's family tree and came across this entry and photograph.  Do you know the christian names of Mr and Mrs yellup in the photograph?  My Grandfather was Benjamin Edward Yellup (1879-1945) married to Mary Jane.  I was interested when you said that they had a daughter called Marjorie, as I had an Aunt called Marjorie born in 1907 and I have found no one else by this name during this period. The only thing is that I thought they lived in Lowestoff.  If you have any information on the Yellups it would be appreciated.

Hi John

I am sorry I don't have any Christian names for the Yellops which is frustrating, it seemed to be around that period everyone called each other more formally. I do have the address that I mentioned - Avondale, Skeyton Road, North Walsham, which I don't think is that far from Lowestoff, if I am right in thinking that's in Suffolk, I'm not well up on the area as I live in Lancashire. However I didn't know that the Yellops had a daughter called Marjorie until David verifed my photo.
Do you have a photo of your Aunt Marjorie as I have a photo of who I think could be Mr and Mrs Yellop with Marjorie, I found it recently. I shall get it onto here shortly and then maybe match it up.

Regards
Pat

Here is the photo I think could be the Yellops and Marjorie. I wonder if David could possibly ask the contact who knew the Yellops to verify this one.

Many Thanks
Pat

Hi John

I found a birth for Marjorie Wilmot Yellop in 1907, Sept quarter
Registration District, Mutford
County Norfolk, Suffolk

Maybe Mutford was on the borders of Norfolk, Suffolk.

Also a marriage between Frank George Yellop and
Elsie Lorking, 1906 Dec Quarter in Bosmere, Suffolk

Both Free BMD

I hope this helps and perhaps ties in with your research.

Pat
