early Mew's possibles please?
« on: Friday 08 August 08 19:50 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I've had no luck with my Mew tree before Thomas Mew c1670. He lived in Framfield until he died in 1699, although he married in Falmer. The rest of my Mew ancestors stayed in and around the Framfield/Buxted/Uckfield area for 200 years.
I wonder if anyone has any Mew's recorded within a few miles of Framfield in the 15-1600's that may tie in?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
The IGI covers Framfield from 1538, Uckfield from 1530 and Buxted from 1568 so if he was baptised there he should show up.  I assume you have looked at the www.thesussexweald.org site?  He may show up there.  Are there any further clues on his marriage details?  Witnesses etc?  Wills?

Hi Andrea & thank you for the reply.

I found that Thomas was my 7x great grandfather through FHO & someone found his marriage for me on the Sussex marrige Index CD. The only detail it gives is that Thomas was from Framfield & Ann Sparrow was of the same parish.

I have tried the weald website which contains some of the latter relatives, but none that may have been siblings/ parents etc.

You do realise that from Framfield only means at the time of the marriage?    It is highly likely he was born and bred there but it is not set in stone so you may need to widen your search.  In the previous hundred years there are no Mew or variant marriages in Framfield or Uckfield on the SMI.  Only one in Buxted in 1687.   (Also a Thomas to Mary Fourd - could he have married twice?) That would imply that they were "incomers" to me.   What did Thomas and Ann call their children?  They may be a clue to parents.
