Hi ~cariad~,

Many thanks for that.

I did a little more checking on the IGI and found these:-

Information removed due to copyright violation. See http://www.rootschat.com/forum/copyright.php for more details

RootsChat must deal with any breach of copyright by its members.

For some time the team of Copyright Editors has been removing breaches of copyright and sending detailed personal messages to the member that had posted the information.  Due to the volume of posts and members this is now impractical.  Messages in breach will simply be deleted and this notice posted.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused but are sure you will appreciate the importance of this issue.

Just wondering if they could all be from the same family.

Checking my database it seems I had 2 varying entries for Charles born 1835 so I've merged all the data.

Also found Charles & Mary Ann in the 1881 Census here:-

Shame you don't know who Charles's parents are supposed to be!  :)

There is another one I saw in 1851  who is with a WALL family

1851 census HO107 Piece 1952 Folio 345 Page 65

The reason I mention him is that he is in Clifton - but he is younger than the one you were originally seeking.  Would you like the details?

I have just seen your August posting about the Rossiter name. I am researching a branch of the family that has led me back to a Henry Rossiter, born in St Philip & St Jacob's, Bristol, son of Aaron and Eliza. They were brushmakers, and it seems very likely that Aaron and your Charles (brushmaker, born around 1816, St Philip and st James) had a common ancestor. I havn't, so far, been able to get back any earlier. if the descendents of Henry are of any interest to you, please let me know.

Hi Researcher99,

Thanks for your post.

I would be happy to have any information about this family please.

Aaron was married three times before he emigrated in 1870.

I think he was the son of Moses Rossiter & Mary Hockford.

It could be that Charles could be Aaron's brother and therefore Henry's uncle.

Best wishes

Hi rcuser

Many thanks for your reply.

I am researching ancestors of Aaron Rossiter's 3xgreat granddaughter Enid Rossiter. The line from her to him is:

Her father Edward Ernest Nangrave Rossiter, born 1908, Islington, London; married Doris Fricker.

His father, Edward Nangrave Rossiter, born Hoxton, London; married Kate Lambourn 1907, Hoxton, London

His father, Edward Nangrave Rossiter, born 1854, Clerkenwell, London; married Maria Louisa Tillett/Tillott, 1874, St Luke's, London

His father, and Aaron's son, Henry William Rossiter, baptised 1830, St Philip & St Jacob, Bristol; married Eleanor Adelaide Kent, 1851, Bow, London City

They all appear to have worked in brushmaking in various capacities. Relevant census entries are:

1901: RG13/276/55/7
1891: no trace
1881: RG11/397/13/20-21
1871: no trace
1861: RG9/197/89/42
1851: HO107/1520/91/13
1841: JO107/377/15/46

I am fascinated about Aaron's marriages and that he emigrated. It would be good to know your sources for this. I have no idea, at this point, where the middle 'Nangrave' came from. It seems to have appeared first with Aaron's grandson, and doesn't seem to be linked to a marriage.

Best wishes

Hi Researcher99,

Thanks for that.

I found Edward Ernest N ( born 1908) and an Ernest J (born 1913) both born in Islington.

Do you have years and places of birth for Kate and Doris please?

I don't know where the name "Nangrave" came from either unless it is a pre-Aaron family name.

Rossiters tend to incorporate wives' maiden names as children's Christian names.

Henry William Rossiter was the only child ( as far as I know) of Aaron Rossiter and Eliza Langhorne(Langharne?). They married on October 26th 1828 at All Saint's Church,  Bristol.

He then married Anne Ransom on October 14th 1834 at St Woollas, Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales. They had at least two children:-

Ambrosine Louise born circa 1835
Clara Elliott born circa 1839

Finally he married Lovey Bowman in the December Qtr of 1869 at Bath Registration District, Somerset. They had at least 4 children:-

Edwin Napoleon Rossiter 1842
James Tell Rossiter  1844
George 1849
Frederick 1851

They emigrated to Ontario, Canada and can be found on the 1880 Canadian Census here:-
http://www.familysearch.org/ENG/search/Census/household_record.asp?HOUSEHOLD_CODE=1881CN_648248&HOUSEHOLD_SUB=1&frompage=99

Aaron & Lovey's children ( & their families) went too.

I say "at least" when referring to their children as these are the ones I know about so there could be more.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes

Hi rcuser

Thank you very much for all of that. It's very helpful.

Kate was born on 12 August 1877 in Reading, Berkshire, daughter of William Lambourn, a biscuit factory labourer, and Harriett (formerly Gilby).  I havn't looked into Doris yet, but will let you know when I have.

All the best
