Hi,

I am doing a one name study of the Rossiter family and am looking for information please about the parents, grandparents and siblings of Charles Rossiter, who married Ellen Kate Sudley Howell in the June Qtr of 1866 in Clifton.

Ellen was born in the June Qtr of 1844 in Clifton.

In the 1861 Census, she will be recorded in her maiden name and in the 1871 Census in her married name.

I am hoping that details of Charles and his family can be found through tracking Ellen.

Any information would be greatly appreciated please. TIA.

Best wishes

On IGI

Theres is a baptism for a Eleanor Howell 29th September 1844 at St Phillip and St Jacob 's Bristol showing parents thomas and Sarah.  The area matches 1871 Census for Charles and Eleanor

worth hanging on to, if you send for the Birth Cert for Ellen June qtr 1844 parents may match.

Hi Pam,

Thanks for all the posts.

I found Charles born 1842 in Shepton Mallet in the 1881 UK Census here:-
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/household_record.asp?HOUSEHOLD_CODE=1881BR_2523891&HOUSEHOLD_SUB=1&frompage=99

However, I have this family in my database and this Charles married Eleanor Stokes in the September Qtr of 1862 at Shepton Mallet.

Like you I found Ellen Howell on FreeBMD but had no details for Charles to get a definite birth year.

The Charles born 1840 in Bristol is a possible as that's the area most likely to fall under the Clifton Registration district and the area where Ellen Howell was born.

Unfortunately, I don't have any further details on them.

Is it possible to find the Charles born 1840 in the 1841 Census and obtain his parents that way please?

Best wishes

Hello rcuser

You asked whether it is possible to find Charles b 1840.

I found this family:

1841 census
  HO107 Piece 378 Book 1 Folio 4 Page 2

ROSSITER

Chas 25 brush mak Y
Mary An? (v feint) 25 Y
Charles 5 Y
Moses 4 Y
Mary 28? (black mark over) Y

Address: Wade Street, St Philip & Jacob, Bristol, Gloucestershire

This Charles is a little too old but might still be of interest?  His brother Moses doesn't appear to be registered (per freebmd) so maybe he wasn't either?

I haven't traced him forward to see whether he matches.

Hi ~cariad~,

Many thanks for that.

Not sure if it is the right Charles but info on any Rossiter is most welcome.

I have this family in my database.

Moses died in 1842.

I found this baptism record for Charles on the IGI:-
http://www.familysearch.org/ENG/search/IGI/individual_record.asp?recid=100086155556&lds=1&region=2&regionfriendly=British+Isles&frompage=99

Tried to find a marriage for Charles and Mary Ann but no luck so far.

Mary aged 28 may be a sister to Charles the father. Pity there isn't an 1831 Census to tell us.

Is it possible to find this family in the 1851/1861 Censuses please?

Best wishes
