Edith Ellen Rosina Hollingshead

Hello,

I've hit a brick wall.  Any info greatfully received.

Edith Ellen Rosina (Rossini?) Hollingshead b 5.3.1891, parents Arthur Hollingshead and "Ellen" Roughsedge Hollingshead (formerly Mercer)  -  This from birth certificate.

In 1932, 1933 the informant on the death certificates of Arthur and Ellen is E R Hollingshead, daughter.

Therefore I know that Edith/Ellen Rosina Hollingshead is alive and unmarried at the age of 42 in 1933, living at 21 Fonthill Road, Hove.  (This on death cert of parent).

I have searched the BMD Free and Ancestry.co.uk for both marriage and death certificates but cannot find anything.  Possibly looking too hard and not seeing straight!  Is anyone researching this name or have any information that may help?

If she was alive and unmarried in 1933 then the entries you're searching for are in later years, i.e. years that are poorly covered by the computerised index.  The chances are the entries simply don't yet exist in FreeBMD's database.

Using paid-for ancestry.co.uk you can trawl through the page images in which the name might appear, but don't expect it to be a quick and easy job.

Thanks for your reply Stovepipe,

I have gone through ancestry.co.uk marriage and death on line indices once from 1933 onwards.  Either I missed entries in both (which is very likely as there were hundreds of pages) or another possibility is that she emigrated after the death of her parents.  I'm not too sure how to follow up on that thought though.

I realise your post is quite old now but I noticed another post you made regarding Ellen Roughsedge Mercer stating that you didn't know where the Roughsedge came from. You may have since found the details, but if not I can add that she was born on 14 December 1851 in West Derby and baptised at St Anne, Stanley on 11 January 1852.

Ellen was the daughter of Henry Mercer born 1817 in West Derby and Ellen Roughsedge born 1816 in Arrowe, Cheshire. Henry and Ellen married in 1840 in Edge Hill.

Ellen Roughsedge Mercer is my 2nd cousin 5x removed.

Edith E R Hollingshead married Ernest J Wenham, Jan-Mar 1949 in Brighton

Edith E R Wenham died Jan-Mar 1965 Brighton

In 1955 she was living at 13 Hythe Rd, Brighton

It looks like her marriage to Ernest might not have lasted, as an Ernest J Wenham married in Brighton 1969 to Vera Urquhart.

My G Grandfather Charles George Hollingshead m 1st wife Mary Anne Slater.  Their son Arthur m Ellen Roughsedge Mercer 7.8.1882, Toxteth.  Their daughter was Edith Ellen Rossina Hollingshead.

We are obviously tenuously related but it's beyond my brain power to work it out!

Edith E R Hollingshead was 57 when she married Ernest J Wenham (aged 38) 1949.  He was living at 13 Hythe Road at the time.  When Edith died in 1965 they were both living at 19 Stafford Rd so he was with her for 16 years.  He then possibly remarried 4 years after her death.
