I am looking for info about Elizabeth Hornick from Mount Nebo who received compensation after the 1798 rebellion. We are trying to determine if she was the wife of Philip Hornick who was killed in the rebellion. Philip married Elizabeth Gifford in 1797. My uncle was told that Elizabeth died of shock but we have no evidence of this. There is mention of a watch in the compensation and the story of Philip does include a watch. We are also trying to determine if George Hornick was the son of Philip. He was raised in Old Ross by Peter Hornick who is my ancestor. George is possibly connected to another family who are trying to make the connection.

Any info would be appreciated as we are in Canada and it is difficult to access records. I was told that records were lost in a fire.

Kaye

Dear Kaye,

I'm not sure if you'll get this, almost two years later, but one of my family reference books refers to an "Aunt Hornick" who suffered terribly during the  Rebellion.  No more is mentioned, and Hornick is not used again in the family tree or story. Our family names are Heath, Boyce, Jackson, Yates, Warren, all from the Southeast side of Ireland, Counties Wicklow and Wexford in that era.  Please let me know if you get this and anything sounds familiar.
