I am also a Mac user. Thus far, I have been keeping my family tree on paper, and it's getting to the time when I need a program to keep track of all of this so I can plan where to go next.

What is the best program these days for this?  I'd like to be able to print charts or have some type of print out of all of this as it's often confusing, especially when I go back in time, it seems everyone named their sons after their father and they all have the same name.

Thanks,
Carole :)

In my family it was brothers, cousins etc as well and it can be very confusing. However a good family tree program will be a huge help with this.
The choice is up to you as you can see from my previous post I am a great fan of Reunion I always found it very reliable, user friendly and it suits my needs. You can download trials or demo's of most programs. Sadly the new Mac version of Family Tree maker still seems to have rather a lot of bugs in it but hopefully they will soon sort this.
There is also a Mac program called My Heredis which gives you a free trial download but I know nothing about it. Maybe someone else on here has used it.
Hope this is of some help
J :)

I did download the trial of Reunion after reading such great reviews on here about it. I have to say that it is user friendly and I like it. I get my pension in a couple more months so I'll probably wait until then to buy it or ask for it for my birthday in March.

We had about four inches of snow last night, so today I'm going to go through my closet to find my folders with all the certificates I've acquired over the years and enter all of that into Reunion :)

Pleased that you like it. Entering all your certificates will keep you busy for a while!
I've used Reunion for several years and although I have tried various others I still find it the best for Mac.

Thanks, Jocie. I didn't want to spend all that money until I could see if I liked it. I'm glad they have a trial version :)

Like a few others above I am a recent convert to Mac. I currently use the very good Family Historian software on my old PC but it is not compatible so I must either keep two machines or buy something like Reunion. What shocked me was the price. It is half as much again as FH and obviously at the top end of cost among genealogy programs (unless you buy hard copy so-called De-Luxe versions which I don't need). I don't know how much it is in Oz but UK prices seem extortionate.

I found it online in the UK for £62.95. That's about the same as it is in the US as it's $99 here. I do like it, just not sure I want to spend that kind of money on it. I'm still on the fence.

If there is anything that is just as good, perhaps with less bells and whistles, I'd be interested. I just want something so I can keep all the info in one place.

I am another very  happy 'Reunion' user - and I am not tech wizz - I find it easy and with lots of helpful hints when I am stuck.  When I am REALLY stuck, there are a few wizzes on RC who were willing to walk me though the tricky bits - like downsizing a chart to fit into my book!

I've recently met someone else who highly recommended Reunion. I'm rather in the same position as carmay....still sitting on the fence because I just want something to store the info in.
