HIGHGATE - ALL SAINTS CHILDRENS HOME

While trying to help a friend trace what happened to her grandparents  i   have managed to find   on the  1901 census that her Mother   and  younger brother (friends Uncle)   were in All Saints Childrens and Covelescent Home Highgate Hill, but the parents together with 3  older children i cannot find anywhere. Does anyone know of this home, was it for only sick children or maybe could the parents  have gone in a workhouse? The 2 children in question were only 7 months and 2 years, did children that age  go in workhouses? This is only something i am pondering as i cannot see how 5 people cannot be found.

During the 1860s, there was continuing growth in the number of patients as the hospital’s reputation and the population of London increased. In a speech at the Annual Dinner, William Gladstone suggested a country branch should be opened. In 1869, the hospital was able to open a convalescent home at Cromwell House, the 17th century mansion on the then rural Highgate Hill, which was retained until 1924.
