Hyslops of Lochrutton/Corsock

Hello. I just came across this thread and noted the reference to Agnes Davidson. I have a relation on my tree by that name who was born in Lochrutton in 1838 and died there in 1908. She was the daughter of Wm Davidson, Blacksmith at Lochfoot and Janet Wilson. Janet was the daughter of my GGGgf, William Wilson, the previous Blacksmith. If this is of interest, I can give you a little more information on the family, although I cannot find the birth of the above William @ 1773. I have a photo of Davidson Grave in the Lochrutton church grave yard.

Hi Sparkle, I am related to the Hyslops at Lochrutton.
My great grandmother was Margaret Jane Hyslop, born 1846 and she married George Ireland (a farm servant) in December 1870 at Lochrutton. Margaret died 9th October 1918 and both Margaret and George are buried in Lochrutton Cemetery, Lochfoot.
My grandmother Susan Ireland was born at Lochside Cottage, Lochrutton in 1886. Susan married David Muirhead (a shepherd from Lochfoot) on the 3rd March 1914, at Kirkland, Lochrutton Gate. David was killed in WWI and his war grave is also at Lochrutton. Unfortunately I have no more info on the Hyslops.

Warboys - I have found a lot more out about the Hyslops since I posted this I'll pm you if that is okay?

I think we are fairly closely related as I'm also from The Ireland Branch. My G. Grandpa is George Ireland, son of George Ireland the farm servant; older brother of Susan.

I suspected but did not know for sure that Margaret and George were buried at Lochrutton Cemetary; I was going up there to have a look on my next trip up. So thank you. Now that I know they are there I'll take some flowers

I have seen David Muirhead's grave at lochrutton. I took a picture of it. I had no idea I was distantly related to him!

JA- sorry I managed to miss your post, I'll have a sort through and try to find where and if your Davidsons/Hyslops are related. I've actually managed to tie most of the Hyslop branches together so it is all good!

lochfoot- again I need to go back and have a look at the Davidsons to see where it all fits together.

After all this posting the first time it took my Mum to remind me that I friend that I had when I was younger is related to the Davidsons also. Small world!

Any link to Helen Hyslop who married Robert Hume (b 1811)?

I have a Helen Leckie Hyslop b.27 Feb 1858 Southpark, Lochrutton, daughter of John Hyslop and Elizabeth Leckie. But know no more than that, but by the dates I'm sure it can't be the correct Helen.

Do you know any more about your Helen and I'll try to place her.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you.

It would be nice to see if there is any connection with the Hyslop, Davidsons and Murrays - my 'brickwall' Murray was a blacksmith.  I did find that he was briefly in Lochrutton whilst Margaret his daughter was born in 1838.

I haven't come across any Murrays that I can recall. Please tell us what you know about Margaret and her parents and I'll see if anything fits into the Hyslop/Davidsons

I'm new on this site and have just been looking around the posts for Kirkcudbrightshire when I saw this entry.
 
The group of graves you mention in Lockrutton cemetery  are of intrest to me. Mainly plot No 194. This relates to William Hyslop, his wife Janet Rae & some of their children.
Janet Rae is my 4th Great grand aunt on my father side of the family. It was Janet's sister Deborah that was the link to my grandmother Jessie Helen Payne Muir who was born in Lockrutton in 1895. Jessie,s brother James Muir is also commemorated on the WW1 memorial on the outside of the church.
