1861  census hitchin hertfordshire thomas kefford wife carling and family including joseph born 1849 joseph says born 1850 hertford herts children born around stevenage baldock........ so if this is correct family, cannot be alias william kefford deported to australia in 1848 joseph to young and thomas busy on the home front!! having a son george aged 14 that would definately be the time he was supposed to be in tasmania

vanslow and amy smith mine.as these are part of the windsor coopers they are very well researched so leave them bot we dont know the ascestry of amy smith.that would be good.    old alfie said that thomas father was also thomas so that s william right out the picture i think.it must have been thomases father that went to aussie?any kefford info around that time is useful as i have only done them back to late 1800s at present.

cathayb, thanks for the reply,i dont know if you ve seen the messages ive left on discussion forum  of gypsies passing through sitesince i wrote it,ive discovered a load more ancestors who appear to be gypsies, the names there are rossiter, knight, hogbin, barnett, bean, shilling, taylor,a thomas taylor rossiter and a richard cooper rossiter, also a lee and a church.theyre all connected to the stones/goldmiths etc.its stuff ive got from another GenesReunited member and havent had a chance to check census yet,but the occupations shes put down are hawker/drapery box maker/showman/musician/lodging house keeper/traveller in millinary/pedlar/tanner/licensed hawker/chimney sweep.ive got to go to supermarket now,but will post with more details when i get back.bye for now, nel.
