Can stop looking.  Have discovered through signatures on other documents that Lewis Foley is in fact Denis Foley.  He wrote his "D" in the old Irish style which looks very much like an "L".

Thanks everyone for your help.

Regards
Debra

My Foley family also came from Cork.  My grandfather Denis Foley was born 1889 in Poplar, London.  His father Thomas was born London Middlesex about 1860. I have been unable to find his birth cert. His father Michael Foley born around 1820 in Cork, Ireland.  On the census he is with his wife Mary ? also born Cork Ireland. I have my family from there down but would like some help going backwards.  Another given name that runs through our Foley family is Maurice.  Thank you for your time and hope to hear from you.
