I can only tell you what the census says in any particular year. In 1861 it says Eliza was born in Hazelwood in Yorkshire - but this is unlikely to be correct judging by the other census' as Hazelwood is in Suffolk. It also spells the surname ALGER instead of ALGAR- again a simple name variation as the family members all fit what we know from other census.

Her birth is recorded as Aldeburgh with Hazelwood  Suffolk  England - you can check out the birth on www.familysearch.org Check the census for yourself at www.ancestry.co.uk

Hazelwood, Suffolk - Situated about 5 miles to the southeast of Saxmundham and 1 mile northwest of Aldeburgh. The old parish of Hazelwood is now incorporated into Aldeburgh.

Leiston, Suffolk is situated about 3 to 7 miles to the east of Saxmundham and 3 to 5 miles north of Aldeburgh.

Both places seem fairly close together.

All the locations given are within the same area of Suffolk

Haselwood is a parish without a church, in the mid 1800s only 108 people were living there.

There was a church there at one time, but it fell into ruin several centuries ago.

Parish Records for Haselwood are with those for Aldeburgh St Peter and St Paul.

You can check out all of the parish churches at Simon's www.suffolkchurches.co.uk

Leiston is a small town and as blacksmiths were needed at the Garrett's factory, perhaps your man found daily work there.

We have friends who live at the old blacksmiths in Aldringham .

In St Margaret's parish in Ipswich you will find Old Foundry Road - will check with husband to find out which of the foundries was there.
