Hi

I just did a search on Eddles. I was born in South Africa but have lived in London for most of the last 18 years. My mother's maiden name was Shirley Eddles and she talked of the British Eddles family owning bakeries.

Hello all

I am interested in the Eddles connection to bakeries in the Torquay area.

My relative, Ella Ellis (b 1898 in Staverton, Devon) married Claude Eddles (b 1895).  Ella went to Bloemfontein, South Africa in 1912 and lived there until the 1920s.  Her father William Ellis (a baker by profession) died out there in 1918.

I can't find any record of Claude's birth in the UK nor can I find him on a census.  But have found his death in the Newton Abbot area in 1950.  Also, can't find a record of his marriage in the UK - I presume he married Ella in South Africa.

Have found record of 'Eddles & Ellis Bakers' - with 3 shops in Torquay in the 1930s.  The 'Ellis' half of the partnership was William Owen Ellis, brother of Ella.

Any further information gratefully received :)

Hi

My mother was one of the Bloemfontein Eddles family. Her brother Clive Eddles
still lives there. He was born in the thirties and will potentially know more about this.

Hello

Thanks for that.  If your uncle has any knowledge of the Eddles family in South Africa (particularly Bloemfontein) I would be very interested to hear it.
