MACRAES from Gairloch, Melvaig & Aultgrishan

My great great great grandfather was John Macrae b. c 1811 in Gairloch, R & C , and died 27 March 1866 in Melvaig.  He married Isabella (or Isabel) Mackenzie on 21 December 1837. Their children were Donald b. c 1838, Alexander b. c 1840, Ann b. c 1846 m William Chisholm, Mary b.c 1848 m Roderick Munro, and Kenneth b. c 1852.
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has any further information or is related in any way.  I am also interested in furthering my search of the Chisholm and Munro connection.

Welcome to Rootschat 

One of the first things that I would do if I were you is to obtain a copy of  John's death certificate which would give his parents names.

This can be obtained by searching the Scotland's People site www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk It's pay to view but very reasonable. For example, the certificate would cost 1 unit for the index search and 5 units for the certificate image which you can download. A unit is 20p. These units are bought in batches of 30 units each (30 60 90 120, etc)

Also it would be worth looking for the family on the censuses. Do you have access to these?
