This may throw a spanner in the works but maybe you can shed some light on some ramdon info my grandfather gave me. He said he vaguely remembers his grandfather ( however, by the dates, his GF died a few years before he was born (1929) so im wondering who he is describing.... Ready... Apparently everyone called him 'cil/sry' he was a well known character in deal, he described him as a big man, with a long white beard, which he used to tuck into the top of his trousers!! Never worn a shirt or shoes and was a 'barefoot shrimper' do you have any ideas who this might be??

Hi Claire and all Redsulls

I have just joined this site, had no idea about it until Yvonne Scott told me Claire was on it. I have no info for anyone but my tree is on Genes Reunited if anyone cares to have a look. You all seem to have so much info and if I need anything I will be sure to ask. I was born in Cavell Square, Mill Hill in Deal to George Edward Redsull son of Percy and Grace. We moved to Watford when I was very young when my dad got a job in the print - it was better than going back down the coal mines. I have a lot of cousins in Deal as my dad and Auntie Gladys were the only ones to move away. Thus I do not have the ability to 'go looking' but the next time I am in Deal I will take a list with me of graves and graveyards to visit to look up my ancestry.

Ooh, hello all.
Apologies for lateness in replying but wow it's always lovely to have new eyes to old posts.

Well, in the end it turned out my mom had given me the wrong names for my grandfather's adoptiveparents - they were actually Arthur and Mary not Alfred and Margaret (I have the adoption papers now).
Given that Claire is a descendant of Alfred that would prove it's not possible that he was also my grandfather's adopter (is that a word?) as the couple who adopted Ted were unable to have their own children.

To fill it all in Ted was adopted by Arthur REDSULL and his wife Mary STEVENS.
Arthur being the son of Arthur REDSULL and Emily SCOTT; Arthur snr the son of Alfred Henry REDSULL and Caroline BENTLEY.
I haven't really looked any further back as while Arthur and Mary were "real" parents to Ted, they aren't really my ancestors.

By golly there were certainly a lot of REDSULLs in the Deal area, doesn't seem such a common name now.

Hi all

On the subject of there were lots of Redsulls in Deal but not so many now. My grandad Percy Redsull and grandmother Grace had 11 children - 2 died in infancy and one around age 7. Which left 8 - 6 of which were girls - so no Redsulls born there. My dad had 2 daughters - so no Redsulls again. My uncle Les had 1 boy and 1 girl. So out of many many grandchildren there was only my cousin John to carry the name forward. Such a shame we are 'dying out'. I remember years ago when we used to visit there was a Redsull Avenue and a butchers I believe.

Haven't had much time recently to go searching but now the winter months are coming I hope to 'get my head down again'.

Regards to all.
Pam
