Hi to all, I made a mistake on my post above, Joseph Gess's father was Michael.
At Ashford St. Mary, Kent, on 9th Nov. 1840, Diana Stone of full age, spinster of North Street, daughter of Thomas Stone, hawker married Joseph Gess, of full age, hawker, bachelor of North St., son of MICHAEL Gess (not Henry), hawker.  Witnesses Henry Elgar and William Elgar.
In 1861 Diana 45 says she was born Hythe and Joseph 50, says born Rye.
In 1871 at Gladstone Terrace, Sittingbourne, niece Sarah A Roberts is staying with Diana and Joseph, she is the daughter of Adam Roberts and Priscilla Frances nee Stone. Priscilla is the sister of Diana, my ggm. Sarah, Richard, William, Thomas and Eleanor.

Hope the above is helpful.
Brenda

Hiya cousin Shane, about Henry Elgar could he be just a member of the church and not related at all ?  I have other instances of that happening, but it is possible that John Reed was acquainted at least with the Stones or Goldsmiths as I seem to recall you knew there were traveller Reeds.  You would need to see whether Henry Elgar regularly witnessed marriages to confirm or not.
Hope all the family are well Shane and my best wishes to them and of course to all researchers on this topic.
