Are you sure Mary Blanche's surname is Clarker instead of Clarke, Sam? The index says Clarke ... looks like she was unmarried, doesn't it?

It's going to be hard to go back a generation and trace Mary Blanch Clark(e)(r) parents when no information has been found about her.

Slow down and go one step at a  time!

What exactly does Doreen's birth cert say? Does it stipulate the B Clerker is actually granny? If Mary B died at the birth, for example, maybe it is just a worker at the mum and baby home? Do you know what happened to Mary B after Doreen's birth? Why didnt she register the birth herself? any clues on the birth cert? could she have died in childbirth? could Doreen have been taken from her at birth for adoption, and registered by a "social worker" - do you know what happened to Doreen?
Lots to sort out on Doreen and MAry B before even attempting to go back further!

On the other thread you say

thanks for that i my have found her will let you know later
regards SAM

Ever found out? I can't see any birth for a Mary Blanche Clark* on FreeBMD  :-\

Did she marry later on? Also, any idea when she died? (The death registration should show her birth date or at least her age at death)

all i know on Mary blanch is what i was told by Doreen but I'm not sure how accurate it is as she was  getting on when i spoke to her she said her mum was born about 1911 i assume London but i think she may have been much younger than 20 when she had Doreen and yes she did get married later to William kingston i have no date for this  and she also said her mum died  12 APR 1970/72 but  as i said not sure how much of this is reliable

Well, was she Blanche Mary instead of Mary Blanche by any chance? Did she die in Northampton?

There's this death:
June quarter 1971, Northampton 3b 1458
Blanche Mary Kingston, birth date 27 Sep 1911

Could you tell us the exact phrasing of Doreen's birth cert? Does it say grandmother for B Clarke/r?  ???

FreeBMD shows several possible Blanche M Clark(e)
For instance:
Blanche M Clark Sep 1911
mother's maiden name: Street
Barnet 3a 865

Did Blanche have siblings? There are other children registered in Barnet with mother named Street: George T in 1913, Olive G in 1918

If you could narrow down the date she married William Kingston, you could purchase her marriage certificate to discover the name of her father.

section 7 signature, description and residence of informant  b clarker  mother 22 highbury quadrent highbury
section 5 name ,surname and maiden name  of mother Mary blanch clarker of same address

Section 7 -B Clarker MOTHER means mother of the baby NOT mother of the mum.

And I presume where it says Father- it is blank or has a line through- yes?

It sounds very much as though Doreens mum was called Mary Blanche Clarke(r) but used to call herself Blanche and therefore signed the cert as such.

Any chance you could post a section of the cert on Rootschat so we can all see it?

Maybe on a Common Room board if you can't do it here, but add a link to this posting please. If you are not sure how to do that PM me and you can send it to me to do it  for you.
