Robert Lundy Wilson Family-Paisley,Renfrewshire, Scot.
« on: Friday 01 August 08 02:49 BST (UK) »
Robert Lundy Wilson, Wife Mary ??????? and sons,James, and Alexander [perhaps more children], Came to Upper Canada, around 1833, and received a land grant in Gore District, [Chingacousy,]Ayr, N. Dumfries] The death notice of Alexander states Pl. of B. as Paisley, Scot. DOB as 1826. I have not been able to locate any record of Mary ??? Wilson's death/burial  and do not know her maiden name. Usually, land grants were given in Upper Canada for military service, but again, I have not been able to verify that this was the case in Robert Lundy Wilson's grant. Could the family have been employed in military, agriculture, textiles ????? Any assistence would be most appreciated. Thank-you.

There are discharge documents at the National Archives of the UK for a Robert Wilson, born Paisley who was discharged between 1826 and 1836 at the age of 32 who served in the 77th Foot Regiment:

Here is a link to a paper published by an undergraduate researcher at the University of Guelph in Ontario which references James Wilson, son of Robert Lundy Wilson:

Not a lot in genealogy terms in the paper but you might find it interesting.

Also at Our Roots they have a book online entitled "Reminiscences of the early history of Galt and the settlement of Dumfries, in the Province of Ontario" which has several references to Wilsons (James mostly):

I did find a reference in this book that Robert Lundy Wilson was a captain in the militia in Galt around 1857 although it seems to indicate in the book that being in the militia was mandatory for men between certain ages and they weren't active except to muster once a year:

Also, apparently there is a book "Our Todays and Yesterdays: a History of the Township of North Dumfries and the Village of Ayr" by Andrew W. Taylor which has published by the North Dumfries and Ayr Centennial Committee (Ontario) in 1970 also has information about the Wilson family. If you google the title you might find some used copies for sale but the cheapest price I saw was about $30 Canadian.

This is my first posting!
RE; Wilsons from Paisley, Renfrewshire, one source has us descending from a James Wilson b.1620 there.

This family spelled their name as Willson. Any suggestions for validating/invalidating this 1620 James Wilson?
