John Redmayne, Two Marriage/s?
« on: Wednesday 30 July 08 14:50 BST (UK) »
Over the course of the last couple of days  I found a reference, somewhere! - to John Redmayne of Ingleton (b. abt 1720), who married Jennet Dickson.  Now, I knew this couple had a daughter Ann (b. abt 1750), who married Christopher Tatham ... plus a number of other children (Margaret 1739, Leonard 1742, Mary 1745, Agnes 1753, Elizabeth 1755, and Dinah 1758 * I already have the marriages for these, incidentally*) ...

I did take notes, when I found the reference, however, - rampant insomnia being the cause - what I didn't take notes on (erm or maybe I did, but due to the confusion of sleeplessness I've managed to lose them!), was the likelihood that John married someone else first, ...  which marriage had produced Margaret, Leonard and Mary.  There is a five-year gap between Mary and Ann, which I suppose allows for the possibility of John being widowed and re-marrying.  If I remember correctly, the point was made that these three births occurred prior to John and Jennet marrying: - if they'd been Jennet's children, anyway, it would have been a case of babies having babies!

Does anyone recall seeing this, or perhaps recall being part of a conversation about the Redmayne/Tatham families ... anyone who might, perhaps, know who John's first wife was?  I'm so tired, by this stage, that I can't even remember which threads I've looked at, and unfortunately, searching RC for "Redmayne", tonight, didn't throw up any threads that were relevant

Thanks in advance in case I fall asleep at the keyboard!  (*John & Jennet were my 5xgt grandparents*).

Thanks, - I had found that Will, but as yet haven't been able to trace the relationship to my John, who was two or three (probably more!) generations later.

On a tangent, I thought it interesting to note that William is described as this John's "natural" son ... does this infer that he was an illegitimate son, by someone other than the wife, Mary (nee Tatham)?

Hi 5th Cousin Deb,

There's a distinct possibilty that John Redmayne was born in 1711 in Arncliffe, Yorkshire (the son of Leonard Redmayne and Margaret Beck). John's first marriage was to Margaret Scott in Arncliffe 30/12/1738. Margaret died in Aug 1747 about 18 months before John's marriage to Jennet Dickson. (John's first two children were Margaret and Leonard which ties in nicely.)

Have a look at:

Cheers.
