Help Reading A Name
« on: Tuesday 29 July 08 11:52 BST (UK) »

Can anyone help with the name of the first trustee John P ---------  of Wooton within the parish of Butleigh?
It's one of those names that just sort of trails off, and I can't think of anyone connected with Thomas Rooke whose surname begins in P so I'm having trouble taking an educated guess!

It's possibly 'Periam'

What date is the will?

I also think it's Periam.

The second and third letters are almost certainly 'er' - compare with the 'er' of 'clerk' which is the penultimate word, first line from bottom.

I'm sure it's an 'm' - compare with the 'm' of William (third word of second line from bottom)

The will is dated 1761.

I've had a look and Periam does appear to be a west country name, so it's quite possible - I think you may well be right. Thanks  ;D

it is DEFINITELY Periam - see my website www.butleigh.org - I'd love to know the context of the rest of the Will
