Canadian Research
« on: Saturday 26 July 08 18:45 BST (UK) »
My UK research has found me a second cousin who was a war bride.  She married in England during 1946.  I then found that she left Southampton for Ontario to join her new Canadian husband in 1946.

I have from the GRO, obtained the English marriage certificate, and I have found on line the document that proved she emigrated in 1946 but what now?

How do I find if the couple are still living and how do I find any offspring?  Obviously, if they were living in the UK after their marriage, I would simply search the births register between, say, 1946 to 1955.  Is there any way of searching Canadian births for this time frame?

Thanks.  Rosie

Hello Rosie,

If you post the name of your warbride and her husband that would be very helpful.

Here is a website that looks  interesting; www.canadianwarbrides.com

Good luck

Thanks for the website address Lily.

I will get on there this afternoon and see if I can find anything.  Concerning the their names.  It is possible that one or both of the couple are still living.  The bride was born in 1923 - hence I have not put the names to print.  However, I will send you a pm in the hope you might be able to advise my best way forward.

Rosie

You could also check the passenger manifest, as that should tell you her intended destination. (It may even have the address)

Am just reading a book about Canadian war brides (it's not near the computer at the moment) and their experiences. Lots of names and stories so if you want to send me a pm with her name and any details I'll have a look.

Thank you all for your help.

Janice, I have already checked the passenger list and I have found her on there but what now?

Lily, Thank you for the website details.  I have visited the site and found my way to a "contact us" email address.  I have sent a message asking assistance and hope to hear if they can help me with my search.

Aghadowey, I have sent you a pm.  Thanks for your offer.

Regards,  Rosie
