I have just found my ancestors lived in Witham. Are any of the parish records available on line? Also does anybody know if Dace is an Essex surname?

If you are talking pre 1837 there should be some on the IGI , unfortunately some areas have better coverage than others.

hi Gill have just read your posting. I live in Witham and have relative from Essex. I dont know how far you are from Witham but you could try the Essex Records Office in Chelmsford.

Just google essex records office and you will be directed to the essex county council website where you can view a map as well.

I just found your post from last summer and wonder if you can help me?

I am looking for the marriage of Esther Emmens to an unknown Monteith, perhaps in Witham.

Esther was born in Witham and christened on 11 Mar 1797, daughter of James Emmens and Ann.
She married Thomas Abbott, a widower, as Esther Monteith, widow, on 27 Oct 1833 in Witham.

There was one daughter born to her first marriage - Hannah Maria Monteith, born in about 1829-30 according to census records.

Would you be kind enough to scan your Witham records from, say, 1820-1830 to see if there is a marriage for Esther Emmens?

Hi Wendy

I have had a look at my Witham marriage records in the time zones you quoted and have not found the marriage you are looking for.

However, I only have the parish records for Witham St Nicholas, so it may be that Esther married the unknown Monteith in another parish of Witham.

By the way, I also checked burials from 1829 to 1833 and couldn't find any Monteith surnames in Witham St Nicholas.
