An Ulster settlement at Katikati was founded by by an Englishman named George Vesey Stewart (c. 1832 - 1920)who was a landowner in Co. Tyrone. Katikati was the largest organised settlement of Irish Protestants in New Zealand. GVS has been credited with arranging for 4000 people to emigrate to New Zealand. www.katikati.co.nz

The History section of the Katikati site includes Jasmine Rogers' Masters dissertation "Little Corner of Ulster in New Zealand" as well as an online memorial to the sixty men out of a total population of just over 400 who left from Katikati to serve in the First World War.

The following website

http://publicprofiler.org/worldnames/

allows users to locate the origin of their surname and the parts of the world where it is most commonly found and that includes New Zealand .....

Thanks heaps Christine

Just an update on the cemeteries page - a reply that I received from Murray ....
I can't live without his pages.

Quote - Hi Christine
You must still be using the old pages which include only a few links, both of the Manukau databases are linked on the new page:

go to the map (http://fhr.kiwicelts.com/Cemeteries/NZ_Cemetery_Map.html),

search for the cemetery (eg search for "manukau memorial" with the quotes)

on the pop up window on the map you will see "Web Links: Click to see Web Links"
Click on the hyperlink and in the left column you will see a list of all websites (that I'm aware of) with info on the cemetery.
It is a little bit more complicated than the old page, but a lot easier to use than to describe.

There are over 600 websites linked in this way. - Quote
