M Inscriptions for St Mary's, Howden le Wear
« on: Monday 21 July 08 11:33 BST (UK) »
Hello Again. Here is a list of surnames for St Mary's Howden le Wear.
The graveyard and the monuments are in a poor condition.
I see that the church is now redundant and it is up for sale with the possibility for conversion to a dwelling:-

Adams, Adamson, Agnew, Alderson, Bainbridge, Bains, Balmer, Bell, Bowen, Burn, Burnell, Butterfield, Calpin, Calvert, Charlton, Clark, Clement(Scrafton) Curry, Daniels?, Davison, Dawson?, Dyson, Elliott, Ellis, Eppy, Etherington, Finlay(clark) Gibson, Goodwin, Groves, Hall, Heslop, Howe, Hutchinson, Jameson(Flower) Jaques, Johnson, Jordon, Kavanagh, Kearton, Lamb, Liddell, Lockey, Luck, Marsden, Martindale, Mein, Milburn, Moore, Mountain, Norwood, Parkin, Patterson(Harrop) Patton(Cook) Peart, Powell, Raine, Ramshaw, Readman(Woodward?) Robertson, Robinson, Robson, Sanderson, Slee, Smith, Spencer, Thompson, Todd, Trotter, Varty, Wales, Walton, Watson, Whitton, Wilkinson, Wilson, Woodward.

The name in brackets show that the name is on the same stone as the previous name. This sometimes gives a clue on family connections.

Adam

Hi Adam

Please can you post Readman (Woodward) & Woodward.

I've got a Hannah Readman married a Woodward, so i'm hoping they're mine.

Cheers

Jay

Updated - I think, having looked at my tree, fingers crossed, one might be for Minnie Readman WOODWARD, hopefully the other will be her parents George & Hannah.  ;D

Hi Adam

Thanks for those.

Didn't know what happened to Minnie & don't think i've got Stanley recorded.

Will have to have a ride over & find the graves before the Church gets sold!

Cheers

Jay

Hello Jean. This is a poor stone but here is what can be read.:-

In affectionate remembrance of ???????? the beloved son?  of Joseph and Elizabeth Milburn, who died July/6/1875 aged ???? years.
There are parts of other inscriptions on the stone. I remember doing this one winter morning and there was frost on the stone. Perhaps it may be better reading it under better conditions.
