Daniel Jones
« on: Sunday 20 July 08 15:05 BST (UK) »
Hello Winnipeg,
I,m looking for the family of Daniel Jones b.1885 in Llangeitho,Cardiganshire,Wales. He emigrated to Canada in I believe 1916.He served with the Canadian army in WW1[I have his attestation papers].Apparently he gained the rank of Sergeant. He was later an Inspector on the Canadian Pacific Railway.Somewhere along the line he became wealthy enough to bring along a personal Physician when he visited Wales sometime in the 1950's.He was my G.Grandmother's brother.
I believe his wife was known as Nelly and that he had 2 sons-Daniel and Robert. They also served their country in WW2.Daniel was i believe a Captain in the Queen's own Highlanders of Canada, whilst Robert was a Flight Officer in the Canadian Airforce. They both survived the war.
Beyond this I know nothing of them or their family and would very much like to get in contact with any of their family or failing that to know what became of them.If there is anybody in Winnipeg[their last known locality] that can help I would be very grateful.
Thank you,Regards,David

Hi David
I am in Winnipeg, and will be happy to help if I can, however I am going to need a bit more to go on if possible?

Do you have an approximate date of marriage for Daniel Sr? Or approximate birth years of his two sons? Any additional information on the sons would be a huge help.

I am guessing he MAY be buried in Brookside Cemetery, but that is just a wild guess at this point based on his Military Service. I would need to know a year of death in order to approach the staff at the cemetery or to do any inquiries at any of the cemeteries.

Please PM me if you do not wish to disclose further details on the boards here.  I'll do what I can to help.  :)

Hi Tazette,

Thank you for your offer of help which i gratefully accept.I have only approximate dates for everything bar Daniel's year of birth which is 1885.I believe that Nelly his wife was from Liverpool in England.I would presume the date of marriage to be close to 1916 as i know that he attempted to go to Canada once before he was successful. On that occasion he ended up in the Isle of Man!It is understandable as he was unlikely to have a good command of English as the language of his home would have been Welsh. On both attempts his departure port was Liverpool so i think he may have met Nelly then.

As to the sons they must have been born before approximately 1920 to have been old enough to have fought in WW2.The only other bit of information i have regarding Daniel jr. is that out of 105 classmates from Winnipeg who fought in WW2,only Daniel and one other survived.

As to Daniel sr. he served in the 190th. overseas battalion C.E.F. of the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force. The number on his attestation paper is 892071 and his address is given as C.N.R. Boarding Dept.,Winnipeg.This document was signed in the 3rd. of March,1916 and he gives his mother back in Wales as his next of kin[so presumably he was not married then?], and his date of birth is 24th, of November,1885.I think i may have an old address for him though i can't find it at the moment.I'm certain it was in Winnipeg city,i'll search again.

Once again i'm very grateful,

Regards,brawd houdini

I found the birth of a child in 1949 ... whose father appears to be the son mentioned above...full name of the mother as well
also a mention of the same man as a police officer in Winnipeg...
