BURNS of Killyleagh - 1863 (Edward and Mary)
« on: Saturday 19 July 08 21:16 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone:
I am looking for information on my g-g-grandfather Edward Burns, wife Mary D.  He is from Killyleagh, Down, Ireland.  He was born 1864.  He emigrated to American between 1880-1883.  He married Mary D (I do not know her maiden name although I would like to), I do not know if he married her before he left Ireland or when her arrived here in New York.  They both have the same birth year 1864.
They had two children while in New York, (where I do not know) but then he settled in Tolland, Connecticut and was a mill worker, which makes sense since there were mills in Killyleagh and it was a trade evidently that he knew.  They had 10 children.
If anyone can give me any information on his parents from Killyleagh or close by I would appreciate it.  I have been up against this brick wall it seems forever.  I just found out about his being from Killyleagh yesterday, and am very excited.
Hopefully, someone out there knows something about this family that will help me keep going.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Gail

Hello there,

Not sure if this info is of help, I went to school in Killyleagh high and there was a sweet shop run by a man called Burns it was across the road from the mill in Killyleagh sorry cannot remember the street .
There is a paper called the DOWN RECORDER that people read in and around Killyleagh if you wanted they would i am sure place a Add to see if there are any of the Burns family still living in Killyleagh I think the man was called Charlie Burns that owned the sweet shop, You could also try Killyleagh Library,

Hello Gail,

There are three families named Burns in Killyleagh on www.192.com

You could send them a snail mail post rather than phoning them.

Christopher

:)Hello Christopher and Loraine:
I appreciate your information. Christopher, I will drop each of the Burns listed a letter to see if there is a possibility they are somehow related.
Loraine: Thank you for the information about the Sweet shop run by a Burns.  I will see if I can find it on the web.  Or through the directory of Killyleagh.

LisssaM:  I tried to look on he US Emigrants board but did not see what you were referring to, maybe I just didn't look in the right place.  Can you steer me in the right direction, please.

I have have not been doing much with the Burns end of my family lately, as school is starting and seeingthat I work at college we have been extremely busy getting ready for the students return and I have also been doing family research for a friend and tracing her family for her which I just finished yesterday.  Now it is my time again to concentrate on the Burns family one more time.  Thank you all for the information I promise I will follow up on it.
Gail
P.S.  I think you guys are the greatest, I have never been to a site that is more helpful

Hi Gail,   maybe not "new" info anymore since these were developments from around July 21st  but just click on the link I copied into my July 21 post and it will take you automatically to the topic you posted July 8th.

You had searches for BURNS going on the Down Co. board and the US board which seemed separate .....but I didn't re-read to see if the topics have since crossed over.
