Hmmmmm!
I stand corrected again.

You're correct of course.  I THINK we are allowed to transcribe but not use the image(s).

However, I doubt very much if the powers that be will jump down our throats if we just post a wee bit of the document on RC.  Everyone does it - "can you translate this"  "what's this name"  "does this say...."

I reckon, as long as none of us are using the images for commercial purposes. there is nothing to be concerned about.

Point taken though Tom.

Dave

Modified - PS - the images that are copywritten are the images of the actual documents, not the listings.  Yer still right Tom, I break the rules.

Hi Dave,

I must admit I do it myself, but I thought you knew something that I didn't. Now, I am not too sure. I should maybe post separately to try and get a definite answer.

I wasn't worried about "jumping down my throat" more "taking money out of my pocket"

Maybe a separate post isn't a good idea.
It might just open a can of worms.
Let's lie what lies.

The actual images are copyright of the GROS.
The index database design etc and any images of that database are copyright of Scotlands People.

Publishing a small section for the purposes of clarification do not breach the copyright of either party - as in can someone tell what this writing is.

The facts contained within the images are not copyright and transcribing them (not just copying them) is acceptable, I believe.

As you are no doubt aware, to safeguard itself Rootschat has a very strict policy regarding copyright and the team involved do a difficult job (and thankless task) very well

Nice clarification there Falkyrn.
Thanks.

As far as the team having a "thankless task", that is very unfair and a very sweeping comment.

I think, No, I know a lot of us fully appreciate the effort that goes on behind the scenes to make RC what it is.

Anyway, let's not turn this into a barny - we both appreciate the site.  We both help out when we can.  Everyone helps out.  That's what it's all about.  Oh do the hokey cokey........... ;D ;D ;D

I don't regard it in that manner at all but unfortunately some have done so,  fortunately a minority.
Like you I have been helped several times by Rootschat members going out of their way to do so and in some small ways  hope I have been able to repay some of that.

That , I believe, is the strength of RC

Hi all: Back to the original question. Out of curiosity (and because my dad's family emigrated to the U.S. from Italy), I checked the Ellis Island site for the surname Cortopassi--on the off-chance that Aldo might have emigrated to the U.S. first.

I found 147 Cortopassis, but the closest to Aldo was an Adolfina Cortopassi from Lucca. If

Also, the Aldo George Cortopassi born 1976 in Edinburgh should probably be easy to find via telephone directories, no?

From SP

Aldo Gino Martino Cortopassi B1912 D1985
There are 2 births for Also Gino Martino Cortopassi in Glasgow in 1912 so possibly registered in both districts.

If Ramsayjohn orders the death cert from 1985 (£10GBP), it will confirm wife and parents.

Assuming I've picked the correct records, and I'm fairly sure I have, I've found the following.

Aldo's wife Ann Smith died 1968 age 51
Aldo's parents:
married 1912
Paulo (Paul) Cortopassi c1881 (31 at marriage).  No birth on SP. died 1924
Mary Catherine Doherty c1893 (19 at marriage).  Haven't looked for birth yet.

From their marriage cert, Aldo's grandparents:
Martino Cortopassi and wife Adelaide Bartolomei - I assume they were both born and died in Italy (no deaths on SP).

Patrick Doherty and Teresa Leonard (I've not checked them out on SP yet.

I've emailed ramsayjohn directly with full details.
