John HUNTER & Ann ARMSTEAD; William HUNTER & Charlotte ROSS; Jane HUNTER & Josep

Is there anyone researching these families from Wentworth?  I believe John was born 1803 in Staincross and that William is his brother born 1805 also in Staincross/Darfield and that Jane c 1806 in Darfield is their sister who married Joseph, the brother of Charlotte ROSS.

William is my 2 x gt grandfather he married Charlotte Ross in Wath upon Dearne in 1826 there children were
Sarah 1828 - ?, Mary 1830 - ?, Sabina 1832-1850, Job 1834-1868, George 1836 - ?, William 1840-1900, Hannah 1842-1850 & Samuel 1844-1865. I am descended through William and am in contact with a descendant of Job’s.


John married Ann Armstead in 1825 and there children were

William 1840
Ann 1842

Both John and William named their sons who where born in 1840 William and I believe this to be after their father.  There is a death of a William Hunter in 1839 at Barrowfield Gate

 In 1841 census there is an Elizabeth Hunter living with Jane & Joseph Ross and in 1839 Joseph Ross was the informant at death of William Hunter.

Would love to hear from anyone connected to these families.

I have John Hunter & Ann Armstead, although I haven't confirmed anything yet, I am related through his son Joseph who moved to Lincoln where the main batch of my Hunter family still live. Let me know if you have been able to research any more or if you want some info. Thanks Avril

I am at present on holidays, however I am pretty sure that John and William Hunter were brothers, do you have the parents for John I have them as William and Elizabeth Wood.

I will be back home in a couple of weeks and will get into the tree again and maybe we can work something out.

To my knowledge only Job & William survived to marry and have children.  Haven't been able to trace Mary & Sarah past I think 1851 census.

I did a bit more research, parents of John are William Hunter & Elizabeth Wood (as far as I can make out). They married 1 Oct 1798 - Woolley, Yorkshire.

It looks like I got the same as you. I have an offline tree but also have the Hunter DNA on Ancestry if you have a subscription to that. At the moment I can't get any further back due to it being a common name
