samuel harris b 1822 Thorpe, Essex

Can anyone help me to find Samuel Harris´ father etc, Samuel was born in 1823 in Thorpe.  I know he married Amelia Adams in Harwich but cannot find his mother or father.  I have tried on various sites on the computer but as I live in Spain cannot physically go and find out myself.

As he married after 1837, a copy of his marriage cert will give you his fathers name

That would be brilliant as I am researching the Harris family as my husband is a Harris from Dovercourt, Harwich.  I got back as far as Samuel Harris but got stuck I had sent for his marriage certificate but cannot read the father´s name as it is handwritten, it looks like perhaps John from Gt Totham but it is very difficult to read.   Thanks very much.

As I live in Spain my research has had to be on the internet.

Valerie

Hi Valerie
There is no record of a baptism for a Samuel Harris at the Anglican Church at Thorpe le Soken that I could find for the year you give, I searched 5 years either side of this date and lots of Harris's but no Samuel.
The only Harris baptism that is around that year is for a Mary Harris, daughter of Robert & Elizabeth Harris, Robert's occupation is a Labourer, the baptism took place in 1819.

I checked for marriages of a Samuel Harris as well but no luck there either. There is a Baptist Church at Thorpe le Soken so it is possible your Samuel was baptised there.

I will keep a look out for Samuel and if I find anything I will let you know as I'm also researching the Harris family from Thorpe le Soken

I have sent for Samuel´s marriage cert, which my son in the UK has.  I will see it next week.  I know Samuel married Amelia Adams in Dec.1850 in Maldon district, his name is spelt Saml Harris.  I will be away until next weekend and will then have the marriage cert.

I have now read the marriage certificate and Samuel´s father was William Harris from Gt Totham and he was a blacksmith.   I now have to see if I can find where Samuel was actually born.
