Hi Folks,

I am new to this site.  If anyone out there has access to Grantham Parish records, could they please be able to do a search to see if they can find any record for an Elizabeth Hall who was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire approximately 1804-1806.  She is recorded in the 1851, 61, 71 census records as being born between 1804 and 1806 (varying ages in census).  She was married in St Annes, Soho in 1825 to a John Langlois.

Any assistance would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks

Michael Langlois

Hi mlanglois, welcome to RootsChat :)

The IGI has these baptisms

Do her children's name provide any hints?
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Hi Kathy,

Someone did respond the other day with advice re 2 separate Halls, Elizabeth and Eliza that were born around 1804/1803 respectively in Grantham and these records were on familysearch.com.

I guess I just have to work out which Hall it may have been.  I have been checking the siblings names via the familysearch site with respect to the same parents etc.

The IGI on Familysearch has a father's name for both, however not a mother's surname.  I think it could be the one named Elizabeth Hall born in 1804 whose parents were Robert Hall and Sarah.  They also had other siblings including a William.  Elizabeth Hall who married John Langlois in St Annes Soho named one of her children Sarah and another William, but then again they were common names.

Please don't go out of your way just for me, unless you were particularly going to the Grantham Library for other reasons.

Regards and thank you for your response

Michael (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia)

Hi again Kathy,

The marriage certificate which is on ancestry.com under marriage banns indicates the witnesses were James and June Thomson.

According to familysearch.com Robert Hall and Sarah had 5 children. Mary born on 24/4/1801; William born 6/9/02; Elizabeth born 13/11/03; Eleanor born 25/3/05 and Robert born 18/3/06) who died on 25/12/11).

All were born in Grantham. I managed to find Sarah in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census records where she is shown living with her daughter Eleanor (Moulding in 1841) then Claar in 1856 and 1861. I found a Mary Hall who married a John Beckett on 29/4/24 in Grantham, however have not been able to find any census record for them. I can't find a William Hall from Grantham in a census record as yet.

What I know of Elizabeth Hall is that she is aged 37 in the 1841 census (a widow) employed as a Heating light maker with children John 15, Catherine 13 and William 9. In the 1851 census she is aged 45 (same occupation) with children John 24 and William 19. In the 1861 census she is aged 58 (a night light maker) with grandson John aged 6. In the 1871 census she is aged 67 (same occupation) with grandson John. So with all these census records it puts her birthdate somewhere between 1803 and 1806. She was recorded as being born in Grantham in all census records. She died in 1872.

She married John Langlois at St Annes Soho 26/12/1826. Quite a big decision for a young girl to make the move to London at a reasonably early age, as I believe John Langlois was born in the London area. According to the marriage record they were both from the parish of St Anne's Soho, so who knows when she moved there.

The only other person born in Grantham around this time was an Eliza Hall who was born in 1803. I can only presume it is actually Elizabeth and not Eliza, but there is nothing concrete which locks it in. I will keep plugging away.

Regards and thanks for your e-mail. If you find anything interesting please let me know.

Regards

Michael

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :).

Hi Michael,

I hope you are sitting down when you read this message as you have hit the JACKPOT in regards to the Peter Claar & Eleanor Moulding connection as my husband is descended from Peter & Eleanor's son William b.1849.

Peter Claar married Eleanor Moulding (neeHall) 3/July/1845 Bottesford her fathers name was Robert Hall.
They had 3 children.Eleanor 1847.John Henry 1848 & William 1849.

My connection is through William born 1849.

William born 1849 married Elizabeth Deacon (b 1851 d.1875)on 23/June/1873 St Johns Church Grantham.
They had 1 child William born 1874.
William(b 1849) 2nd wife was Elizabeth Bembridge on 6/August/1876 St Johns Church Grantham.
They had 15!!!!children.

William born 1874 married Ada Louisa Pearson on 11/June 1899 St Johns Church Grantham.
They had 7 children including Florence Annie born 1901.

Florence Annie married Edward Rose on 13/April/1932 St Johns Church Grantham. They were my husband Johns parents.

I have not gone down Eleanor Moulding(neeHalls)family so did not realise the connection to you until you mentioned the surname Moulding and then Peter Claar.

I will send you a PM with my email address and can swap info with you.

Regards
Kathy

Hi,

Have been in touch with Michael and some of the information he has given me in the background to Eleanor Moulding(nee Hall)was very welcome but Michael appears to be consentrating on the family name of Langlois but I am still grateful for the information he has given me.
