Hi Graham

There are no St Annes school records in Grantham library.Incidentally I went to that school from 1946-1951/2 and the building is still there but is now used as an after school club and other small businesses and the exterior looks no different. They built a new school on Harrowby Road near by.
The library did!!!! have Spittlegate and Huntingtower Road school records on microfiche but they have gone walkies!!!!! ::) ::) ::)would you believe so I could not check them for any Kendall's .I did think that the children may have transferred their when they moved to George St and Cambridge St.Will keep a look out to see if the records reappear.

Kathy

Many thanks for this information Kathy.  They may have been at Spittlegate School, and possibly their father William Vincent Kendall, b1855, who lived with his parents, Joseph amd Charlotte at a pub in Wharf Road.   In a Grantham Directory it seems to have been a 'beerhouse' or off licence, but I have no name for the pub.  I think it unlikely they were at Huntingtower Rd School which I thinks was later, though my brother Brian H Whitehead was there briefly as an evacuee from Coventry in c. 1939/40 approx. Any help you can give much appreciated.

Many thanks Kathy.  They would not be there in 1871 because in that Census they moved to Sprowston, Norwich for a while but then returned to Grantham by 1877 because that was when Wm V Kendall and Mary Ann Barlow married in Sleaford.  Oddly Joseph Kendall is then described as dairyman.  On their marriage in St Wulfram 1854 it gives Innkeeper for Joseph's occupation and Publican in 1855 Wm's birth.

Thank you Kathy
However my great-grandfather David Morley bootmaker of Triggs Yard (next door to what was Moulds shoe shop [My grandmother was at school with Gertie Moulds]) came from Long Bennington and a brother and sister of my grandmother were born there.
There was an uncle on the railway who moved to Leeds.  There was another Morley family in Wharf Road )a baker) so these you mention may be related to that family rather than my grandmothers.  Depends where this John Morley (railway worker came from) but if the parents or wife are mentioned I might then know if they fit.
Best wishes

Many thanks Kathy.  You are kind.  The Morleys at Spittlegate school are not mine but I think belong to the baker in Wharf Road.  They are too early as my Morleys came to Grantham in 1891 Census, and these are not the names,
George, Miriam, Lydia, Mary, Annie Withers, William, Richard, David and John are the names.  I think the girls at least went to the National School, Castlegate.   Harold Kendall is my great-Uncle.  He was the youngest in family.  Both families ended up in Cambridge St.  Many thanks for all your efforts.  I am out on a limb here in Gloucester.
