Hi Graham
What a small world my Gt Grandparents James & Ellen Avender lived at No 7 Rutland street from late 30s until James died aged 95 in1949 and Ellen died 1953 aged 98 and before that Ellens daughter & husband William & Myrtle Frisby lived there 1917-35.I have lovely memories of standing on their front room table pulling the chain to lower the oil lamp and lighting the wick and sending it back up.

Aunt Lydia had gas light and a cellar door directly opposite the front door. If the door was left open you might fall straight down the cellar steps. I remember when electricity was put in in 1947. She had been a Red Cross nurse in Grantham during the war and must have been well known. Her sister Miriam lived with her until her death in 1977. Lydia died 1970. Their brother George Morley lived in Stanton Street.
