Hi there,

I usually claim any Locktons in Grantham, on the ground that they are usually mine  ;D

I don't have this Henry in my database, though.

Charles Lockton married a Martha unknown, though. I have them in the 1861 census but she never appears again in any census after that. I wonder if she could be Henry's mother after she left her husband. In the 1861 census the Locktons were living next door to a family of Wrights???

I addition, I do know that plenty of Locktons from Grantham went to Australia. Worth a try? Can't seem to find any of these in the 1901. They could have all died, of course.

I'd love to find mnore!

Locktons can be found on http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tiber/

Thank you so much for the above website.  Y0u have solved a mystery for me.  My great aunts (who were Grantham MORLEYs (Triggs Yard,Watergate) took me (1950) to meet their 'cousin' Cissie LOCKTON who lived in an Almshouse, Brook St.  I thought she was perhaps from Long Bennington where the Morleys came from, but I see ALICE Morley - Lockton in Grantham on the website, so this could be the connection, further back making them distant cousins. Perhaps Cissie is Cecilia? but have not found her on any Census.  Anyhow thank you very much.

Hi Kelly

I went to a neighbours funeral today and whilst in the cemetary I called in the office and they gave me the following info.

Charles Lockton and his daughter are both in the same grave but no headstone.

Sarah Lockton was aged 80 and was buried 28/Jul/1937.

Will check in Electoral rolls later this week for people living with Charles.

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

Thank you for the information concerning Sarah Lockton, it is truly appreciated.

The burials you found before for Robert and George Robert lockton are for a different George R Lockton to mine.

My George R lockton went to live in USA with his son Frank. The George R lockton burial you found is Robert lockton's son.

I am just trying to find where Robert lockton ties in with my lockton's.

Thank you again for all the information you have found for me, it really is truly appreciated.

Kind regards

Kelly.   :)

Many thanks for this Kathy.  This is definately where I went with my great-aunts though I did not know the person I met was Sarah.  I suppose Cissie was a nick name.  I had begun to think my memory played a trick and should be Lizzie for Cissie but now I think Cissie is what I heard.  I noticed you had some school records of St Annes School.  I was trying to locate these last year as my grandfather and his brothers Walter, (b1880) Herbert b.1882 and Arthur Kendall (b.1883) and two younger brothers Tankerville (yes that is the name) and Harold probably went to St Annes School, as my grandfather was born round the corner in Cecil St.  However they did move to George Street and finally Cambridge Street.
If you could trace them especially Herbert in any school records I would be so pleased.   (When you have the time of course.)  Thank you.

Hi Graham

There are no St Annes school records in Grantham library.Incidentally I went to that school from 1946-1951/2 and the building is still there but is now used as an after school club and other small businesses and the exterior looks no different. They built a new school on Harrowby Road near by.
The library did!!!! have Spittlegate and Huntingtower Road school records on microfiche but they have gone walkies!!!!! ::) ::) ::)would you believe so I could not check them for any Kendall's .I did think that the children may have transferred their when they moved to George St and Cambridge St.Will keep a look out to see if the records reappear.
