Welbeck Street Chorlton on Medlock 1851
« on: Monday 24 January 05 09:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
would there be a chance of someone looking up James Thorp aged about 43  at 43 Welbeck Street in the 1851 census?
According to a trade directory he was there in 1851 although things can change at the time of the census.
His wife Alice was just a few years older.
If anyone could find him in 1861 I would again be very grateful but of course he may have moved.
Regards
Jean Sandra

Hi,

what a shame, I wonder how they became lost?

I don't suppose someone could possibly look the family up in 1861, could they?

James Thorp would have been about 50
Alice about 55
Daughter Hannah 27
Son James 21
Martha 19

Thank you so much for your help.
Regards
Jean Sandra

The 1851 census records of Manchester and surrounding areas were water damaged, causing many records to be lost or illegible. However, members of the Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society have transcribed some of the previously unfilmed sections and these can be purchased on Cd.

How do we know whether Welbeck Street is part of these newly transcribed sections?
Many thanks for the information.

Had a look at the mlfhs wbsite, and as Freestone says, Welbeck St does seem to be completely lost.
