1901 look up please Ada Smith
« on: Tuesday 15 July 08 17:55 BST (UK) »
Hello all

Would anyone be able to find Ada Catherine Smith b. 1895 Ross, and her parents James and Annie Smith (nee Williams)? I have tried to find Ada before but didn't then know her parents' names so have not had much success.

Ada had brothers Thomas, Walter and Edwin. I think they were all younger than her but don't know their DOBs. James and Annie eventually lived near Bacton so I'm hoping that they stayed in county for the 1901.

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
Many thanks
Moss

Moss - hello

The only Ada Smith born 1895 Ross, Hereford has parents James and Lavinia, together with an older sister and brother and two younger sisters and a brother James.   Is this likely to be yours ?  if so, I', happy to post details.

There is no other Ada Smith b. Ross and only a couple in Hereford, back in 1888.

Hi

Thanks for that. This is turning into a real puzzle for me. I know for certain that the parents were James and Annie Smith (I have seen the gravestone and know they were born 1856 and 1866 respec.)

I also know for sure that Ada was born in Ross but not the year. Like you, the only Ada from Ross I found was b. in 1895.

The only thing I can think of is if they were out of county perhaps Monmouth? Not sure where to go from here ???

Gloucestershire is quite close herre - were they there ?

Also James and Lavinia /Annie - was she baptised Lavinia but called Annie in her later years. Person registering her death would not necessarily know what her baptismal name had been.

No wrong ! :-[

James Smith married Lavinia Roberts in Weston under Penyard. Their child Ada is there in 1901.

I like your little penguin Mum, that's exactly how I feel about this one!

I think I've managed to trace Annie on the 1881, living with Lewis and Nancy Williams, Small Brook, Kingstone,Herefd. She's definitely not a Lavinia.

Thanks for looking guys.

Hi Anna

No I don't have any certificates. Ada was my father in law's mother and he doesn't have anything. Apparently there was a split in the family and so we don't have any of the usual info. All he knows is that Ada was born in Ross, probably the eldest child, and had three brothers. He knows that she was older than her husband by a few years and he (husband Cecil Phillips)was born in 1900.

Thanks
Moss
