Samuel Carress
« on: Tuesday 15 July 08 14:32 BST (UK) »
I    hope someone can help me out, I am looking for a Marriage, or Death for a Samuel Carress born: July 22, 1827 his parents were John Carress & Charity last name unknown.

I have looked on LDS web site but with no luck. I do get 2 marriages for a Samuel Carress married 22 JUL 1867  Eaton Socon, Bedford, England to a JANE STOCK. Samuel Carress's father is listed as George Carress.

Then I have a Samuel Carreess married 10 APR 1867 Little Staughton, Bedford, England to ANN HILLSON, on this marriage Samuel Carress's father is listed as John Carress.

Can anyone tell me if Samuel Carress who's father is listed as John Carress married to Charity there son?

Also the Samuel Carress who's father is listed as George Carress, could George Carress be John Carress brothers or does anyone know the relationship between John and George Carress?

I could not fined William Carress and  Ann Hart on the 1851 census they were married 1840, I have tryed spelling it Caress,Carress, Careless and Carless and I still come up with no matches.

Does anyone know John Carress born: 1791 who his parents were?

Thanks for any help!!

Carol Carress

Samuel Caress wasn't born on 22 July 1827; he was baptised on that date. As his brother George was baptised on the same day, and as the previous child of John & Charity was baptised in 1821 there may be a chance that either or both of Samuel and George could have been a late baptism.

In 1841 living in Lt Staughton were James and Charity Caress, both 80, James born in Beds, Charity not.

Also John Caress 50, Charity 45, Maria 25; Samuel 13, so the 1827 birth year does look right.

In 1851 in Lt Staughton
John Careless head marr 60 ag lab b Lt Staughton
Charity Careless wife 59 midwife b Keysoe

Yes I think George is probably the brother of John. In 1861 in Eaton Socon George is 38 born Lt Staughton with son Samuel 12 b Lt Staughton, who may be the Samuel married 1867. At George's marriage in 1844 he gave his father as John.

"Can anyone tell me if Samuel Carress who's father is listed as John Carress married to Charity there son?" I really don't understand the question. If you're asking if Samuel who married in 1867 to Ann Hilson was the son of John and Charity, then no, I don't think he was. There's a Samuel Carress and Ann his wife in Lt Staughton in 1871, both aged 27.

I can't find a marriage of John and Charity. Have you checked Keysoe parish register?

David

David,
Thank you for your reply. Can you check the Lt. Staughton Church Registor for me.

Because I know that at William Carress's marriage to Ann Hart, William's sister Maria was a witness at their wedding.

I am trying to check if William Carress had 2 brothers named George and Samuel.

Because William Carress and Ann Hart also had a son named George.

Samuel Carress married to Jane Stock, can anyone tell me who Samuel Carress parents are then.

I am trying figure out if he is the son of John and Charity or if he is the son of George and Ann Hart.

I also need to find William Carress and Ann Hart on the 1851 census to check for the number of children they had at the time.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

I am sorry for the typo's

Interestingly there were two George Caresses baptised at Little Staughton on 22 July 1827 - one to John & Charity & the other to James & Frances. The 2nd one is in my family tree link by marriage to a desendant of Jonathon Partridge who moved from Bletsoe to Eaton Socon.

James born 1789 married Frances Shadbolt at Keysoe on 25/10/1811; James's parents were James C & Charity Goodwin  who married at Little Staughton in 1783.  They also had son John baptised 8 Apr 1792 using the name Carey.

Is this John the one who married Charity ?

Seems likely that James & John (the respective fathers of the baptised George Caress) are brothers.

Sorry Carol, I don't have access to Lt Staughton parish register.  Microfilm copies are available to order and to view at your nearest Family History Centre of the LDS - a list is on www.Familysearch.org

This is Samuel Caress 1844 son of John Caress & Mary Joyce who married 8/6/1838 Little Staughton. This John 1815 is son of James Caress & Frances Shatbolt. James 1789 is brother to John 1792 (who married Charity Wilemot) both children of James Caress & Charity Goodwin who married at LS on 12/10/1783.
