Hi All,

Two more certificates arrived this morning:-

The first is the birth cert for the 2nd child Jane

I know there was a second child, Jane born 1870 in Accrington, Lancs - correct mother and father but I am awaiting her birth certificate.
Maggie

I can now confirm in all details by this birth cert.  Jane was born on 20th April 1870 at 66 Frederick St, Old Accrington to the correct parents.  The family must have made a move from Blackburn to Accrington sometime between April 1868 (birth of Thomas) and April 1870 (birth of Jane).

Until a few days ago I thought Thomas and Jane were the only children of this couple but I have now found a birth in Accrington in 1871 of a John ROSTHORN with mother Margaret nee MOORE.  I am waiting for this birth cert.

On 26th December 1871 a son John was born to Edward and Margaret (nee MOORE) ROSTHORN at 2 St Stephen's Court, Old Accrington.  Margaret is described as 'deceased' so it would appear she died in or as a result of childbirth.  The date of the registration is 1st January 1872, the same date as Mum was buried (I think - notes not to hand).  What a terrible Christmas the family must have had !!

So.......... 2 more certs to come one for the death of Margaret and one for the death of a John ROSTHORN, who I presume is the baby (modified later....the baby born in 1871 - not necessarily the baby in the picture).

This is a bit rushed so hope it makes sense as I am trying to pack and sort for our holiday.  Hope the other 2 certs arrive before we go.  :-\

I haven't had much time today to muse on any implication from the latest 2 certs - but whilst walking the dog just now a point occurred to me which is worth a mention.

The baby, John ROSTHORN, was born on 26th December 1871.  I am waiting for his death cert (if I have the correct child) and the death is registered in the June Qtr of 1872.  Therefore as he was 3 to 6 months old at death, he is to young to be the child in the picture. Perhaps it is his sister Jane, who was born 20th April 1870 - as I think Paula has speculated.

Yep, going by the hairstyle that would be just purrrrfect.  8)
Thinking about it...if that was the case, no wonder Mum was looking old and tired, am I right she was about to die with the next child...

Hi Maggie: I looked at the photo and I don't think the picture is PM. The mother doesn't seem to be grief-stricken.
