Thanks Terry  ;D ;D ;D

Maggie, all your ferreting around for information seems to have paid off! As you say, none of them gives us an idea who the lady was as yet, but it has helped you find out more info about your tree.

You say you have some photos of your very handsome  ::) ::) grandfather. Can you see any resemblance in the older man to this child, or to the lady??

Perhaps if you post one, one of "us experts"  ;D ;D ;D can give our opinions!! (And we like looking at photos of handsome men ) :P :P :P  :P
Best wishes, Judy :-))

Does this help -

I can see a similarity between the baby and the man (A very distinguished gentleman, by the way!!)  ::) ::)

But that is perhaps because I want to  :-\ :-\
Best wishes, Judy :-))

Interesting isn't it  :-\

Thank for this Judy - at least you have made it easier to compare............ ummmmm  :-\

A pity we cannot ask him to remove his moustache  ;D

Added later:-  If this IS my grandfather it dates the photo at around 1883

If "our" lady  (sorry yours :D) worked in the Mills, Could the black on fingers be ingrained dye from the material?? (I know Ive had a few lucky escapes with black hair dye in my time but thats another story ;D)

Handsome Devil! Your Grandfather Maggie.

I wonder what our your lady would have made of all this, years & years later people looking at her photo & being so interested in her circumstances? ;D ;D ;D

Hi Monkeymagik,

Yes - the same thought has occurred to me, as whether our lady was Wife No 1 or Wife No 2, she was a mill worker and probably had rather care-worn and stained hands.

A handsome devil indeed  ;D......... we are a handsome family, monkey-m  ;)  ;)  ;)

I often wonder what the ancestors make of my endeavours - I imagine my lot chorlting away up there in great amusement when my researches sent me astray, then applauding me wholeheartedly when I get something right.  I have also felt them directing me on occasions - a push in a certain direction that at the time makes no sense but then leads to a discovery................

I think my/our lady would be most pleased ........ and very honoured  :D

Seeing the dates laid out like that, I am certain sure, that is Thomas, the first baby born in 1868...about 18months/2 years old, Mum well on the way with the one born later that year and feeling k nackered. This would fit in with the 1870 hairstyle.
Oooo that hansome chap looks just like the baby to me... the left eyebrow looks just exactly the same...and the lower lip,
if not him, then very close family tie.

Oh oh, revised that thought....
The lady I posted with the same (ish) hairstyle was in 1872...so that would be second baby...Jane....but the eyebrow and lower lip are still the same as the chappie....

well...to me....
Think I'll go and get a cup or tea.....

The handsome chap was not born 'till March 1882 though, Paula, and was half brother to Thomas and Jane - same father different mother.
