D would give you the Hamilton Records Office code

The Regiments you would be looking at are:

Royal Scots
Royal Scots Fusiliers
Scottish Rifles
H.L.I.
K.O.S.B

At the NA  you would need to look for D161= WO329/3029

I found my Uncles on his 'Ordinary' medal card which I downlaoded from Ancestry.
As I understand it they were given to those who were discharged through injury so there may also be a pension record on Ancestry.
