Ronnie and I have corresponded for many years. Last September we met up in Portarlington. He is a most knowledgeable and amicable gentleman.

As you say a very nice man, I met him earlier this year when I was in Portarlington.
It was Ronnie who told me that the tendency was to Catholics to be Mathews with one "t" and for Protestants to be Matthews with two "t" in that area

Yes, I would say that 2 T's for Church of Ireland. In some of the early records the name is misspelt, so you have to double check.

Many of the names are in Coolbanagher Parish. I have been collating the records.
